5 Tips to help you stick with online learning

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a major shift to online learning, and people are liking it more so than physical classroom environments. Online learning allows you to learn comfortably in your own space and time – allowing for convenience and flexibility. However, it can be difficult for some when you have to learn in an environment that is your home. The many distractions available such as your bed, your TV and even your phone, can shift your attention and focus away.

We have all struggled to stay focused and productive when learning online. But here are some tips that can help you stick with online learning just as you would do in a physical classroom setting.

Create a schedule

One of the most important things you can do to stick with online learning is to create a schedule and stick to it. This will help you stay organized and on track. We recommend scheduling your learning sessions (if possible) at the same time and space in your home every day. This will help you get into a set schedule so you don't procrastinate your learning hours.

Set clear goals

Another key tip to sticking with online learning is to set clear and achievable goals. This will give you something to work towards and will help you stay motivated. Your goals can be small and bite-sized which is better than unreasonable goals that are impossible to achieve.

Stay organized

Online learning can be overwhelming, so it is important to stay organized. This means keeping track of deadlines, assignments, and other important information. You can use tools such as calendars, to-do lists, and note-taking apps to help you stay organized. You should also keep your learning space organized to make your space more comfortable. This will also help you to minimize any distractions and be more focused in a clean and organized space.

Get involved

One of the biggest challenges of online learning is feeling isolated. To combat this, try to get involved with your classmates and your instructor. Participate in online discussions, join study groups, and reach out to your instructor if you have questions or need help.

Take breaks

Online learning can be mentally and emotionally taxing, so it is important to take breaks. This can be as simple as stepping away from your computer for a few minutes to stretch or taking a short walk.

Online learning can be fun and enjoyable especially in your own home. The main key is to stick with tips that work for you to eventually make learning a habit that you enjoy. Once you are more motivated to continue learning everyday, it can feel like a rewarding experience.

At Sigma School, our courses are done online to allow our students the advantage of flexibility and convenience. Whether you have a full-time job or a part-time student, you will be able to learn coding at your own pace without feeling pressured by your other commitments.
